Caroline Kennedy for Obama

The New York Times has endorsed Hillary Clinton in the Democrats’ race, but in tomorrow’s edition, Caroine Kennedy endorses Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

In an op-ed piece called A President Like My Father, Kennedy says she has never found a president who inspires people the way her father did, but that Obama might be that president, not just for her but for a new generation.

Obama won today’s South Carolina primary by near-landslide proportions, with 55% of the vote.

  1. Just Like Her Daddy and Worse

The Princess Royal of the Kennedy clan, who has herself accomplished nothing in life except being born to wealth and privilege, has draped her father’s moth-eaten cloak on Barack Obama, who, in her father’s White House, would have been a footman or cook. Say what you will about Obama, he got there himself without the benefit of a rich daddy or corrupt political machine. He may be more unprepared to be president and more disastrous for this country than was JFK, but we hope, at least, that he will be impervious to “love notes” from middle-aged political camp followers who are still trying to be influential without ever being relevant.

  2. By 1960, JFK had more federal government experience than Obama, who can only claim 1.5 years as a sometime US Senator. JFK inherited a strong post-war economy from Ike. The next president will inherit an economy in distress with galloping oil prices, wage stagnation, mountains of debt, record foreclosures, and a market increasingly dependent on foreign investment. Does the good Senator from Illinois have the policy experience to deal with the devastation of the Bush years? Hope(TM) and Change(TM) don’t pay the bills.

  3. Caroline Kennedy has lived with grace and dignity, and her thoughtful endorsement of Barack Obama captures the hope and is motivated by the hope that many are placing in a man who has awakened our imagination. I thank Caroline Kennedy for the endorsement she offered. I am certain that her words will have an important impact and for good reason. Hope is essential to motivate good people to step out of their ordinary lives and to provide the extraordinary efforts which it will take to repair the damage done by the current administration. The democrats have a great set of candidates this year and hopefully each will contribute their special talents to moving America forward and hopefully the next president will use all of the talents brought to the table wisely.
